Mediation and Conflict Resolution

Completion Report

Abstract

For my project in mediation and conflict resolution I learned the skills it takes to be a certified mediator. To begin I went through the first part of SUU’s UNIV 4920-02 course. In this course I Learned how to be a mediator in a 4-day lecture series. After the 4 sessions I continued my practice with 10 practice hours and study time. Though some more self-study and practice I have. After the class and self-study is over I have the knowledge and experience to be a mediator and lead others to a solution to any disputes they may have at home, in the workplace, or any other areas. The certificate I gained is also very nice to put on resumes.

Goals

For my EDGE Project I completed the conflict resolution/mediation training course including all hours of lecture role play hours and practice hours.

Objectives

I gained very helpful skills for a future career. I am able to lead people to a healthy solution to their conflicts.

Proof

It is hard to prove that I have completed my objective when my objective was mainly based on knowledge. The most I can do is give my announcement that I have learned a lot and that I now have a certificate in mediation.

Deliverables

I made a log of my hours in class, role playing, studying, and practicing. Photos at each stage have been taken.

Justification for changes

My UNIV 4920-02 class originally wanted to give us the opportunity to shadow and work as mediators in real situations. When the class started it became clear that we would be unable to do that. In exchange we used our time to do role plays and get as close to real situations that we can without actually working as mediators. I used the rest of my extra time practicing in my own time with people I know or have met.
